Dimgba Igwe has since passed on but tributes won’t just stop pouring in. As October 11, the scheduled date for the final burial of late media sage draws near, more tributes from eminent personalities and organisations have continued to pour in torrents in honour for his impactful contribution to improve the journalism profession in the country.

Former governor of Lagos, and chieftain of All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while condoling with The Sun Publishing Limited, expressed his deep shock and sadness at the tragic death of Dimgba Igwe. Asiwaju further prayed God to comfort staff and management of The Sun newspapers, and grant them the courage to bear the loss.
“The late Dimgba Igwe was one journalist I knew personally and respected his professional contributions to building our country. He was as thoroughbred journalist and writer, who remained steadfast and lifted The Sun newspapers to a position of reckoning. Sadly, the tribe of great journalist in Nigeria has again been depleted by this sudden and most heart breaking death,” Tinubu said.
Also paying condolence is the Anambra State Government. A condolence letter signed by the governor of the state, Chief Willie Obiano, commiserated with The Sun Publishing Ltd over the death of Dimgba Igwe, saying that the media icon died at “a time his journalistic talent was greatly needed by millions of Nigerians who look up to him for his incisive dissection of the Nigerian condition.”
The Anambra State governor urged all to take solace in “the fact that Dimgba Igwe left a towering legacy for his family, friend and all Nigerians.”
Furthermore, Senator Chris Anyanwu, representing Imo Central, expressed sorrow over the sad death of the veteran journalist, saying that Dimgba Igwe’s death spoke out on many lingering issues concerning Nigeria’s societal settings. According to Senator Anyanwu, Igwe’s death spoke out the need for walkways to be built on the roads. She called for the installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations and in densely populated areas to enhance security.
“Dimgba Igwe could have been saved if only our hospitals are braced to handle emergencies. It is sad that in a country like ours, we don’t have a functional emergency line to dial in crisis situations,” she lamented.
Senator Anyanwu, on behalf of her constituency, consoled The Sun and Igwe’s family.
In the same vein, Chevron Nigeria Limited also condoled with The Sun newspapers over the demise of its vice chairman.
