The Governor-elect, Ayo dele Fayose, appealed to the outgoing governor not to use the funds meant for the pay ment of workers salaries to pay government contractors, describing such act as robbing Peter to pay Paul.
But the state Commis sioner for Information, Tayo Ekundayo, wondered why Fayose did not give the advice to Fayemi when they met yes terday, dismissing Fayose’s statements as ill timed.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, the governor-elect alleged that the Fayemi administration was owing work ers months of salary arrears and entitlements.
He said: “The governor does not need to rob Peter to pay Paul. He owes workers in the state backlog of salary arrears and has not paid them. Instead of paying workers, the administration is focusing on paying government contrac tors.
‘’The word of God says a labourer is worth his wages and those who are working for the state must not be denied their dues. The govern ment must not waste further time in paying these hapless workers and save their fami lies from hunger.”
